description abstractn this paper the vibration behaviors of a structure equipped with a tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) are studied. By linearization the equation of motion of the single degree of freedom structure equipped with the TLCD, the analytical formulas of the optimum TLCD parameters for the undamped structure are derived. To find the reliability of the analytical method, the results have been compared with other researcher that considered the structural damping and have good agreement. Further, the optimal design parameters such as tuning frequency ratio, length ratio and mass ratio are obtained by using the white noise type of wind excitation and the performance of the TLCD for controlling the wind induced responses of a 75-story flexible sky scraper is investigated. Finally, the effectiveness of uniform cross section area is considered and it is found that for a given mass ratio and horizontal length ratio, using a uniform cross section area can always achieve the best performance.en
