Abstract: According to the Quran, the Almighty God has bestowed upon people an everlasting torch, Islam, to guide them in the dark ahead. He has completed his generosity in guiding people via perfecting His religion. Not only does the Holy Quran excel in providing guidance, hili also the exemplary character of islam.i.e. the blessed prophet himself (p.b.u.h.] , served as a model Fir attaining some transcendental goals. The principles advocated in the Holy Quran and the practices ofJirst - generation Muslims, authenticated by the prophet \\'.1 approval, are available to us as glowing torches of guidance which will help us pave the way in our movement towards a resurrected, updated Islamic civilization.

As such, we maintain thai Islamic principles, Quranic teachings and Prophetic traditions and practices; can be invaluable In delineating characteristics of muslim scholars and, by way of implication, of an Islamic university. The four major characteristics dealt with here are: respect for knowledge, pursuit of knowledge, respect for scholars, and being a real muslim
